Investigation of microstructure changes in Al2O3-YSZ coatings and YSZ coatings and their effect on thermal cycle life

Abstract Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coatings and Al 2 O 3 -YSZ were prepared by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). Their microstructural changes during thermal cycling investigated via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with backscatter diffraction (EBSD) X-ray (XRD). It was found that the microstructure of two different, including crystallinity, grain orientation, phase, phase transition. These differences are closely related to cycle life coatings. There is a relationship between crystallinity crack size. Changes in orientation microscopic strain cracks. Phase transition direct cause coating failure. In this study, discussed detail.
